ClipSmart is currently in beta. We collect only the minimum information needed to make the app work. We do not sell your data. We do not share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Your shopping list is yours.
✓ We collect your first name, email address, zip code, store preferences, household size, dietary preferences, the items on your shopping list, and — if you choose to scan a receipt — the products and prices printed on it. Receipt images are never stored. They are read once and immediately discarded.

During beta, we collect the following information when you create an account:
We do not collect your full address, phone number, payment information, or any government identification.
ClipSmart offers an optional receipt scanning feature. You photograph a grocery receipt, and we use artificial intelligence to read what is printed on it — so we can add those products to your shopping list, and so we can confirm that a coupon you clipped was actually used.

Our system is instructed not to extract those fields, and they are removed before anything is saved.
Why we keep the product and price information:
From this we build a de-identified product reference — a list of product names, sizes and typical prices by store chain, with no link to you or any other individual. It is a dictionary of how groceries are described and priced, not a record of who bought what.
⚠ Tip: avoid photographing receipts that show payment card numbers (sometimes printed at the bottom). We do not store or log the image and we do not save card details, but it is good practice to cover or crop that area before scanning.
✓ Receipt scanning is entirely optional. You can add items to your list manually at any time without using it.
Receipt images are processed by Anthropic's Claude API. Anthropic's handling of data submitted to their API is governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy. By using the receipt scanning feature, you acknowledge that your receipt image will be processed by Anthropic's API in accordance with their terms.
We use the information we collect solely to:

We do not share your personal information with any of these providers beyond what is necessary to operate the service.
Your account data and shopping list are stored securely on US-based servers provided by Supabase. We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections and access controls to ensure your information is protected.
Receipt images are never written to any storage — they exist only in memory during the brief processing window and are not logged or retained.
How long we keep things. Your account information and shopping list are kept while your account is active, and deleted when you ask us to delete your account. Product and price information read from receipts is kept for up to 24 months, after which it is either deleted or stripped of any link to your account. The de-identified product reference described above contains no personal information and is kept indefinitely.

One exception, stated plainly: when you delete your account we delete your personal information, but the de-identified product reference — product names, sizes and typical prices by store chain — is not deleted, because it contains nothing that identifies you and cannot be traced back to you.
ClipSmart uses Supabase's authentication system to keep you logged in between sessions. This uses browser local storage, not tracking cookies. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics during beta.
We do record how the app itself is used — which setup steps you complete, and when you add an item, clip a coupon or scan a receipt. That record is written to our own database over the same connection the app already uses. There is no third-party analytics script, no advertising network, and no tracking across other websites. It is deleted with your account.
ClipSmart is not directed to children and is not intended for anyone under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, email support@clipsmart.app and we will delete it.
As ClipSmart moves from beta to public launch, this privacy policy may be updated. We will notify beta users of any significant changes by email before they take effect.
